Returning to work after maternity leave: Finding your feet in a new chapter

Returning to work after having a baby is one of those milestones that comes with a little bit of everything. Excitement, nerves, anticipation, guilt and perhaps a quiet sense of relief at drinking a coffee while it's still hot.
There's the childcare drop-offs, the early mornings, the endless mental checklist and the feeling of being pulled in two directions.
But here's something worth remembering. You can love being a mum and love your career. One doesn't make the other any less important.
You haven't lost the woman you were before motherhood. Her ambitions, her passions, her sense of purpose. Motherhood has simply added another extraordinary dimension to who she is.
We recently had the pleasure of hearing from Emma McLean, founder of Works For Everyone, executive coach and leading advocate for working parents. With over 25 years of corporate experience, Emma is passionate about helping mothers navigate the return to work, championing career confidence, workplace flexibility and a future where motherhood and ambition can thrive together.
Here are five of her reminders that really stayed with us.
01. Find your community.
Surround yourself with women navigating a similar chapter. The ones who understand the juggle, celebrate your wins and remind you that you're not doing this alone.
02. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need.
Whether it's flexibility at work, support at home or simply a little breathing room, asking for help isn't a weakness. It's how we make space for what matters.
03. Protect your energy from decision fatigue.
Motherhood comes with a thousand little decisions every day. Simplify where you can, share the mental load and save some of that precious energy for yourself.
04. Stop saying sorry.
For leaving on time. For needing flexibility. For having responsibilities outside of work. You don't need to apologise for being a mother or for having ambitions beyond motherhood.
05. You're allowed to love work and love being a mum.
You can miss your baby and enjoy being back at work. You can be ambitious and deeply devoted to your family. Both can exist, beautifully, together.
You're doing better than you think.
Some days you'll feel like you've mastered the juggle. Other days, simply getting everyone out the door will feel like the biggest achievement of the week.
And while we're often told that mums can do it all, perhaps the more important reminder is that you don't have to do everything, all at once.
To every mama returning to work, rediscovering her confidence and finding her own version of balance, give yourself a little grace.
You're still you. And there's so much ahead of you.
And amidst the juggle, don't forget to make a little time for yourself.

Our Self-Care Essentials Set brings together our Belly & Body Oil and Magnesium Body Rub, the perfect wind-down duo to help you slow down, reconnect and enjoy a moment that's entirely yours.
With love,
